Hyderabad: The State government has allotted 3.95 acres of land at Khanapur to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) for the development of infrastructure required to meet the growing drinking water needs in the Kokapet-Neopolis area.
In view of the rapid population growth in the city, especially in areas surrounding Outer Ring Road, the need for drinking water is increasing exponentially day by day. In view of the future needs, the State government has undertaken the Godavari Drinking Water Supply Project – Phase-II & III.
This project has been undertaken to transfer an additional 300 MGD of water to fill the Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar reservoirs with Godavari water for the rejuvenation of the Musi River. Similarly, the need for drinking water has increased further due to the high level of vertical urbanisation growth in Neopolis and surrounding areas, the water board said in a press release on Saturday.
Keeping this in mind, the government has taken up the construction of Sump, Pump House, Section Office, GLSR & STP in Kokapet Neopolis Layout, and the work has started and is currently ongoing on site. The 8.75 acres of land available to the water board in Khanapur were sufficient for the construction of the proposed 22.5 ML Master Balancing Reservoir, 2 Elevated Level Service Reservoirs (ELSRs), Chlorination Room and Maintenance Unit.
In addition, the water board has requested the government to allocate to the lands identified by HMDA adjacent to the premises of the Khanapur Jalmandal, 1.18 acres for OHT, 0.77 acres for HMDA Site Office and 2acres belonging to the Ashram (total 3.95 acres), the press release added.
