Hyderabad: Industries Minister and TRS working president KT Rama Rao said the TRS government was committed to its electoral promises and had waived crop loans upto Rs 50,000 for more than nine lakh farmers in the State. He stated that the government’s commitment to the well-being of farmers can be seen in its resolve to see farmers debt-free.

In a series of tweets, the Minister said the TRS made a commitment to waive farm loans up to Rs 1 lakh in 2014. Redeeming the promise, loans of 35.19 lakh farmers amounting to Rs 16,144.10 crore have been waived off so far. A similar commitment was made to farmers again in 2018. “Yet again, even in the midst of pandemic, the Telangana government has kept its promise and helped more than 9 lakh farmers by waiving off loans up to Rs 50,000. Kudos to Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao garu and Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy garu,” he said.

Following its promise to waive off loans upto Rs one lakh during the Assembly elections in 2018, the TRS government had waived off crop loans upto Rs 25,000 as first installment benefiting 2.96 lakh farmers to an extent of Rs 408.39 crore. In the second phased launched earlier this month, the government is waiving off loans upto Rs 50,000 spending Rs 2,005.85 crore and benefiting about 6.06 lakh farmers. In the last five days since the launch of second installment of crop loan waiver, about Rs 172.86 crore have been deposited into the bank accounts of about 63,074 farmers.
