Khammam: The real measure of growth of a society was the level of women’s development in that society, stated Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar.

Telangana government was the only government in the country that has been working for the welfare and development of women, he said speaking after cutting a cake at International Women’s Day celebrations at the TRS district headquarters here on Monday.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has come up with several innovative and ideal measures aiming to promote women in all fields of work and the Telangana government has many firsts to its credit in terms of women welfare, the minister noted.

He said the TRS government was the first government in the country to announce a holiday for women on Women’s Day. It indicates the Chief Minister’s concern towards the women’s well being.

Telangana was the first State in the country to establish a Development Corporation for women, for the first time in the country 33 per cent reservation quota was offered to women in police recruitment and 50 per cent reservation in Agriculture Market Committees, Ajay Kumar said.

The above measures were aimed to safeguard self-respect of the women, help them progress by competing with men. Similarly for the welfare of the women schemes like Kalyana Lakshmi, Arogya Lakshmi, KCR Kits and Amma Vodi were being implemented.

Likewise a pension of Rs 2016 Aasara pension given to widows, single women and beedi workers was the highest amount given to the beneficiaries compared to BJP and Congress ruled states in the country, Ajay Kumar explained.

He further said that around 53 Gurukul Degree Colleges have been established for SC/ST and BC girl students, besides them hygiene kits. The minister also took part in Women’s Day celebrations at SR&BGNR College and felicitated best employees and social workers.

The TRS party pffice in-charge Gundala Krishna, former TSPSC member Banoth Chandravati, corporators Neelam Jayamma, Utkoor Lakshmi Sujatha, Kottapalli Neeraja, Dorepally Shweta, leaders Kollu Padma, Keesara Padmaja Reddy, Tanneeru Shoba Rani and others were present.
