Hyderabad: The State government directed all government hospitals to keep generators ready to deal with power cuts during the summer. Officials were instructed to ensure that backup systems switch on immediately during outages so that health services remain unaffected.

The government said power cuts might happen due to dust storms, strong winds and unseasonal rains. However, sources said the main concern was power cuts and voltage fluctuations due to rising demand during the summer season. Officials were also asked to inspect all generators and carry out repairs wherever needed.

At a review meeting with senior health officials on Wednesday, Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha stressed the need for full summer preparedness. Hospitals were asked to ensure uninterrupted power, adequate cooling systems including fans and coolers, and sufficient drinking water for patients and staff.

Officials said arrangements were in place to treat heatstroke cases, with medicines such as ORS in stock. Emergency teams with trained staff and medicines have also been kept ready to respond quickly.

The Minister also called for awareness campaigns on heatstroke prevention, especially targeting workers exposed to high temperatures, including labourers and drivers. He warned about fire risks during summer and asked officials to conduct regular fire safety drills.
