Nirmal: Forest Minister Allola Indrakaran Reddy on Wednesday said the State government was striving hard to provide irrigation facilities to one crore acres of agriculture lands in Telangana.
Speaking after inaugurating the renovation works of Dhonigaon project in Sarangapur mandal, Indrakaran Reddy said the government was determined to irrigate agriculture fields located at the tail-end areas of irrigation projects. As part of the mission, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao embarked on redesigning irrigation projects and creation of new ones. He is allocating a major share of funds to construct the facilities and to renovate existing ones.
Regretting the previous governments had neglected the irrigation sector, the Minister stated that none cared for renovating Dhonigaon project for quite a long time. He opined that the woes of farmers to irrigate their agriculture fields would be a thing of the past once the project was renovated. He added that the facility was built to cover 1,550 acres in 1976.
As part of the renovation, the distributaries, right and left bank canals would be repaired. Sluices, drops and other important features of the facility are also going to be improved.
