Hyderabad: For fourth consecutive season, the State government will procure entire paddy produced in the State during the ensuing Vaanakalam 2021-22 season. The Telangana State Civil Supplies Corporation, which is the nodal agency for paddy procurement, has been instructed to procure the season’s entire paddy production of an estimated 1.34 crore tonnes. The State government issued guidelines in this regard, to facilitate opening of paddy purchase centres and procurement of paddy from all villages as was done during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The State government had purchased 1.11 crore tonnes of paddy during financial year of 2019-20 and 1.48 crore tonnes of paddy during 2020-21 when the entire paddy production was purchased from farmers considering the Covid pandemic since Yasangi 2019-20. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s decision has come as a major relief for farmers who were caught unawares due to the pandemic-induced lockdown.
While the Food Corporation of India had already made it clear that it will not purchase boiled rice, the officials said that majority of Custom Milled Rice (CMR) would be raw rice during the season. The millers were instructed to ensure that the raw rice is supplied within the stipulated time frame of July 31 of 2022. Further, the millers, who have defaulted earlier, will not be given any paddy for milling.
While Grade A variety of paddy will be paid a minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 1,960 per tonne, the common variety paddy will be purchased for Rs 1,940 per tonne. The officials have been directed to strictly follow Covid-19 protocol at the paddy purchase centres were all necessary arrangements for paddy purchases would be made.
The officials heading the paddy procurement centres would be completely responsible for the quality of the paddy and have been directed to strictly follow the guidelines. In case of resorting to any irregularities in maintaining track sheets, criminal proceedings will be initiated. In case of any complaints, farmers can approach the Central Monitoring Cell in Hyderabad by contacting toll free numbers 1800-42500333 and 1967.
Will purchase rain-soaked crops: HarishRao
Finance Minister T Harish Rao on Sunday said the State government would ensure procurement of crops that got soaked in the recent continuous rainfall. Terming Telangana government as farmer-friendly, he said that each and every grain produced by the farmers during Vanakalam season would be purchased.
“So, farmers need not worry about their crops,” Harish Rao said, participating in an election campaign in Veenavanka mandal.
Farmers used to face severe hardships due to lack of water and power supply, and they used to sleep in agriculture fields waiting for current, he said, adding that the situation, however, changed after the State formation.
Stating that Huzurabad was the first Assembly constituency to benefit from Kaleshwaram water, he said the October 30 by-poll was essentially a fight between BJP and TRS. The BJP, he said, was trying to fix metres on agricultural pump sets while TRS was providing financial assistance to farmers under Rythu Bandhu scheme. So, farmers should decide which party they want to support, he said.
BJP leader Eatala Rajender, who had not installed a single Ambekdar statue and constructed Ambedkar bhavan in Huzurabad during his tenure as a Minister, was shedding crocodile tears while Chief Minister was providing Dalit Bandhu benefit to dalits.
Will Rajender become Minister if he is elected in Huzurabad by-polls and do any work? Minister questioned.
When Rajender contested against Muddasani Damodhar Reddy, people elected him because of Chandrashekhar Rao and ‘car’ symbol. Forgetting this basic thing, the BJP leader was spreading false propaganda stating that he won the poll with his own image.
Informing that local people wanted to lay a four-lane road in Veenavanka, he assured to develop mandal headquarters in all fronts by paying special attention if TRS candidate Gellu Srinivas Yadav is elected.
