Hyderabad: Health Minister T Harish Rao on Sunday said the State government was extending health services effectively using technology.
Speaking after distributing smartphones to ASHA workers and iPads to Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANMs) in Kamareddy district, he said the gadgets were given to them for rendering better services to people.
As many as 772 ASHA workers got smartphones along with 4G SIM cards in the district. The iPads would enable the ANMs to upload details of the pregnant women and other patients online for taking necessary steps, he said. Appreciating ASHA workers for playing a crucial role during the pandemic, Rao said the former rendered excellent services in successfully completing fever surveys during the pandemic.
Recognising the hard work of ASHA workers, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao enhanced their salaries, he said and added that the salary of each ASHA worker was Rs 4,000 at the native of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Gujarat but the Telangana government was giving Rs 9,750.
The salary of each ASHA worker was between Rs 4,000 and Rs 3,000 in BJP and Congress-ruled States in the country, the Health Minister said assuring that more amenities would be provided to these workers in future.
The ASHA workers used to get their salaries for every two or three months during the Congress regime in undivided Andhra Pradesh. After the TRS came to power, the State government was paying salaries to them every month promptly, he said.
The Minister said Telangana stood in third place in providing quality health services to poor people in the country and advised officials concerned to strive to get the first place.
He asked the ASHA workers to take necessary steps for the well-being of pregnant women. The State government has introduced a nutritional program – ‘Aarogya Lakshmi’ scheme to support pregnant and lactating women.
He instructed the officials of Primary Health Centres (PHCs) to maintain contact numbers of the pregnant women to enquire about their health condition daily. During their visit, the district Collector should examine whether health officials were maintaining the contact numbers of pregnant women.
The health officials should take necessary steps to encourage normal deliveries since only 39 per cent of women preferred normal deliveries while 61 per cent of them were opting for cesarean delivery in the district, he added.
