Telangana Govt’s efforts in conserving heritage hailed

Hyderabad: Deccan Heritage Academy expressed its happiness over the work undertaken by the Heritage of Telangana, Tourism and the MA&UD departments, for conserving and beautifying Devarakonda Fort by sanctioning funds and for the construction of a recreation park spread across five acres on the premises.
Vedakumar Manikonda, Chairman of the Academy along with members of Devarakonda Durgam Protection Committee comprising S Dhananjaiah, Vanam Chandramouli, Yousuf Farhan, P J Samson, Namrita, Gajula Ramesh, and others visited the historic fort in Nalgonda district.
The fort is a prominent fortified defensive structure of the rulers of the Recherla Padma Nayaka Velama dynasty that ruled for 157 years in this region and later Kakatiyas. The fort houses a picturesque water body and a well that ‘never went dry’ and supplied drinking water to the residents of even during droughts, a press release said.
The fort, which covers more than 500 acres, has croplands, canals, wells, sesame seeds, beautiful buildings and gardens. The fortification here is known for its engineering brilliance encompassed by seven slopes with some awesome rocks and stone and woodland.
The Devarakonda Durgam Protection Committee is regularly hosting cultural programmes and Heritage Walks to disseminate the history of Devarakonda Fort with the support of the Municipality and District Administration.
Deccan Heritage Academy proposes to represent to State government to undertake conservation plans and comprehensive documentation for the fort and its historic relics for developing the site as a tourism destination, the release added.
