Hyderabad: Several aspirants who appeared for the Group – II services examination were taken aback seeing names of Cillian Murphy, Emma Stone, and Christopher Nolan in one of first 10 questions.

The examination conducted for recruitment to posts, including Municipal Commissioner, Assistant Commercial Tax Officer and Naib Tahsildar, tested candidate’s Oscar knowledge as part of the paper – I.

Giving out statements related to Oscar Awards 2024, the candidates were asked to select the true ones. The statements – Cillian Murphy won the best supporting actor award for the movie ‘Oppenheimer’, Emma Stone won the best actress for the movie ‘Poor Things’, Christopher Nolan won the best actor award and ‘The Last Repair Shop’ won the best documentary short film award.

This question caught students, even the most prepared ones off guard, as it was an unexpected one. “Generally, questions on Nobel prize winners are asked in the Groups exam. However, a question on Oscar awards particularly about best supporting actor award is not expected,” said Sharath, a candidate who appeared for the examination in Peddapalli district.

The TGPSC, which conducted the examination, also tested aspirants’ awareness on the National Film Awards 2024 with a question to match categories – best feature film, best actor, best director and best popular film with awardees – Rishab Shetty, Kantara, Attam, Salil Chowdhry and Sooraj Barjatya.

Overall candidates reported the paper – I (general studies and general abilities) to be lengthy and tough in comparison with paper – II (history, polity and society) and said most questions were either statement-based or match the following and only a few questions had direct answers to choose from.

“The paper – I questions were tough, time consuming and lengthy. Questions in English and mathematics were tough. The English questions standard was higher than the Class X standard mentioned in the syllabus. The paper -II history questions were difficult, while polity and society sections were moderate,” said A Ramsha, who took the test in a centre in Nalgonda district.
