Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Tuesday directed the authorities not to conclude the election process for the posts of Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Ibrahimpatnam Municipal Council until further orders, following the alleged disappearance of a municipal councillor.
A Division Bench comprising Justice Moushumi Bhattacharya and Justice Gadi Praveen Kumar was hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by the son of Ward No. 19 Councillor Akula Yadagiri, who alleged that his father had been kidnapped. The petitioner sought directions to the respondent authorities not to proceed with the election process notified under Notification No. 209/TGSECULBs/2026 dated 27-01-2026, without securing the participation and vote of the missing councillor.
Taking note of the seriousness of the allegations, the Bench directed the police authorities to trace and produce Akula Yadagiri before the Court. The Court also granted an interim stay on the election process until further notice. The postponement of the municipal election process comes amid concerns raised before the Court that the absence of the councillor could affect the fairness of the election. The matter has been posted for further hearing on Wednesday.
