Hyderabad: Justice T Madhavi Devi of the Telangana High Court on Tuesday issued notices in a writ petition filed by a farmer alleging denial of crop loan waiver benefits despite eligibility under the State scheme.
The writ petition was filed by Baddam Narsimha Reddy, seeking implementation of the Crop Loan Waiver Scheme notified under GO Rt No. 567, Agriculture and Cooperation (Agri-II) Department, dated July 15, 2024, in respect of a crop loan availed by him.
The petitioner contended that he had obtained a crop loan and had submitted a detailed representation on December 20, 2025, requesting waiver of the loan in terms of the Government Order. However, the authorities failed to process his claim, while extending the benefit of the very same scheme to others similarly placed.
Alleging arbitrary and discriminatory action, the petitioner argued that the non-implementation of the loan waiver in his case amounts to a violation of Article 14 of the Constitution of India. He sought a direction to the authorities to forthwith process and grant loan waiver in his favour in accordance with the Government Order.
The Government Pleader for Agriculture and Cooperation and the Government Pleader for Revenue sought time to obtain instructions.
The Court directed issuance of notice to the Branch Manager, Canara Bank-Aroor Branch in Yadadri Bhongir district. The matter has been posted for further hearing on February 3, 2026.
