Telangana HC issues notices to BRS MLCs over remarks against Speaker

Hyderabad: Justice BR Madhusudhan Rao of the Telangana High Court on Monday issued notices to BRS MLCs Thatha Madhusudhan and N Naveen Kumar Reddy, seeking their explanation in a case relating to alleged inappropriate remarks against the Assembly Speaker. The case relates to an incident on the first day of the ongoing Assembly session, when a clash reportedly took place between the police and BRS MLAs and MLCs. Based on a complaint, the police registered a case alleging that the two MLCs had made objectionable remarks against the Assembly Speaker. The police arrested Thatha Madhu and N Naveen Kumar Reddy and produced them before the Nampally court. The court granted bail to both the MLCs and ordered their release on the same day. Subsequently, the Investigating Officer and the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Sultan Bazar Division, approached the High Court challenging the orders passed by the Nampally court, contending that the orders were not valid. During the hearing on Monday, the High Court considered the petition and issued notices to the two MLCs, calling upon them to file counters. The matter was thereafter adjourned to September 23 for further hearing.
