Hyderabad: A two-judge Bench of the Telangana High Court comprising Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice N Tukaramji on Thursday directed the Telangana government to file a report pertaining to the status of roads in Jadcherla. The Bench was dealing with a writ plea filed by one Nerati Mallesh complaining against the government and civic authorities for leaving project/construction material on either sides of the road. It was further pleaded that drainage connections are pending or under construction due to which the water is getting stagnated. The petitioner also contended that electric lights are not working in the area which is causing trouble to the general public at large who are travelling on the roads at night since no footpath grills are also installed as per the regulations. The matter has been adjourned to March for further hearing once the status report is filed.
SCCL case
The Bench reserved its verdict in a writ appeal on the allegations of misuse of funds by Singareni Colleries Chairman. The appeal is against orders of a single judge dismissing a writ plea filed seeking enquiry on the issue. GK Sampath Kumar had filed a writ petition seeking an enquiry against the current Chairman and Managing Director of the Singareni Colleries, with regard to the ‘Holiday with Pay’ declared by him on February 27 in 2018, when the Chief Minister of Telangana visited the Singareni Collieries Company Limited. According to the petitioner, due to the declaration of the said holiday, the company had to suffer Rs 9.19 crore. He further alleged that the chairman has also misused his powers by hiring 400 buses for transporting SCCL employees on the occasion of the visit of the Chief Minister to Srirampur Area. The Bench after hearing the party in person reserved its verdict.
Relief to advocate
The Bench on Thursday waived a cost of Rs 10,000 imposed on K Savitha, an advocate who appeared as a party in person through an order passed by the single judge of the Telangana High Court Justice A Rajasheker Reddy for filing frivolous petitions. The Bench, while waiving the costs imposed, observed that multiple cases were filed between the party in person and her husband. In view of the fact that she was made to run to multiple courts without paying any maintenance, the costs were waived.
Contempt case closed
Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavili of the Telangana High Court closed a contempt case against Secretary Minority Welfare Ahmed Nadeem and Arvind Kumar, Secretary Education (in his capacity as then acting Vice-Chancellor Osmania University). The Judge also purged its then director Dr Mahajeem Akther of Dairitul Maarifil Osmania, a publication agency of oriental literature connected to the Osmania University. The judge was dealing with a contempt case appointing Dr Mahajeem Akther as Director of the institution as contrary to orders passed by this court. The concerned officials filed their apologies and also stated that any violation was only by oversight and not willful defiance of the court orders. The Director contended that she resigned on the basis of the earlier order and reappointment had joined service. On the date of hearing, the period of her appointment had also expired.
