Hyderabad: A two-judge panel of the Telangana High Court comprising Acting Chief Justice MS Ramachandra Rao and Justice T Vinod Kumar on Monday reserved orders on a review petition filed by the State government seeking modifications to the orders on Ganesh immersion. The court had, on Thursday last, issued guidelines regarding immersion of Ganesh idols in Hussain Sagar.

It may be recalled that the panel issued guidelines prohibiting immersion of idols, particularly those made of PoP in Hussain Sagar.

The panel, while dealing with the review filed by the State, wondered why the facts being brought to the notice of the court today (Monday) were not placed before the court during the earlier hearing. The bench voiced its opinion that it was unlikely to review its order while reserving orders after hearing the Special Government Pleader.

The panel asked the State as to when the baby ponds were constructed and why they were so small that they could not accommodate large idols. The panel voiced its displeasure at the State bureaucracy and its lack of preparedness to deal with the contingency.

The panel was of the view that Hussain Sagar, located in the heart of the city, was polluted and also that the stench emanating from the lake was causing problems to the general public.

The panel also commented that huge public money was spent on beautification of Tank Bund and the same is now being demolished for the sake of immersion. The construction was done without anticipating the contingency, it said.
