Hyderabad: The Director of Public Health, Telangana, on Sunday issued a general health advisory urging the public in Hyderabad and districts to observe precautions during the ongoing inclement weather conditions. The present weather pattern is expected to bring lower temperatures and higher humidity, potentially triggering a rise in seasonal illnesses, particularly vector-borne, waterborne, and airborne diseases, DPH, Telangana, Dr B Ravinder Nayak said.

To ward off the mosquito menace and curtail cases of malaria, dengue and chikungunya, the DPH said and urged families to secure doors, windows, beds and cribs with mosquito nets/screens.

Use mosquito repellents, maintain domestic drains to prevent water stagnation, cover domestic septic tanks to prevent mosquito breeding, and observe ‘Friday- Dry Day” every week to get rid of stagnant water around your house, the advisory said.

To prevent waterborne infections including acute gastroenteritis, jaundice and typhoid, public must drink filtered/boiled water, wash hands, especially before and after meals, and avoid eating outside stale food.

As measures to avoid airborne infections, including viral fevers and Influenza, DPH urged people to avoid shaking hands with someone who is sick, use hand sanitisers, using handkerchief while sneezing or coughing.

“If any person develops flu-like symptoms like cough with fever, headache, sore throat and associated body pains, please go to nearby Government Health facilities. In case of a health emergency, please call 108 Ambulance Services,” DPH advised.
