Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Friday questioned the state government over delays in conducting local body elections and directed it to announce the election schedule by November 24.
The court emphasized that panchayat elections must be held within six months of the expiry of their term. “We have only raised objections regarding BC reservations and have no objection to conducting the elections,” the court observed during the hearing.
The State Election Commission (SEC) informed the High Court that it plans to conduct elections in villages excluding those with disputed BC reservations. However, the High Court expressed strong reservations against this partial approach.
It stated that dividing and conducting elections in phases is not appropriate. The bench issued clear orders to the Telangana government to declare the election dates before the end of November 24.
