The panel was hearing a writ plea filed by an advocate Mayur Mundra, who sought to mandate the use of A4 size papers, printed on both sides for all judicial purposes in the High Court of Telangana and all subordinate courts.
The petitioner argued that the excess use of paper has serious implications on paper pollution. He further contended that chlorine-based bleaches are used during production which results in toxic materials being released into our water, air and soil. Almost 386 million hectares of forest were lost in the last 2 decades which leads to loss of wood harvest.
