Hyderabad: A two-judge Bench of the Telangana High Court comprising Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice A Rajasekar Reddy on Monday reserved orders on a batch of writ petitions on the prohibition of advertisement and regulation of cigarettes and other tobacco products. The Bench heard for the entire day a batch of over 100 writ petitions. Kamadhenu Traders and others sought directions to the government not to interfere in any manner with their trade and business. The petitioner contended that Tobacco doesn’t come under the ambit of food and it could not be regulated under the Food Safety and Standards Act. The petitioner further argued that a Food Commissioner doesn’t have the power to ban the same since it comes under the purview of the Central government and not that of the State.
