Hyderabad: A two-judge panel of Telangana High Court comprising Justice A Rajasheker Reddy and Justice T Vinod Kumar on Thursday directed the State government to file its action plan for dealing with fevers such as dengue, malaria and swine flu that are rampant in the current season, by considering the recommendations of Dr Karuna and amicus curiae appointed by the High Court, by October 5 in a PIL filed by Rapolu Bhaskar Netha.
The PIL was filed to call for remarks and records from the State Health and Family Welfare departments and government hospitals in the city in connection with providing adequate medical facilities in government hospitals, which are not equipped properly to treat diseases like swine flu, malaria, dengue, especially in the twin cities due to which majority of the patients affected are forced to get admitted in private Hospitals.
The petitioner contended that it was the duty of the government to provide free medical aid to its people and also to take adequate preventive measures to curb swine flu, malaria, dengue, typhoid, etc., by directing civic authorities to deal with the menace of mosquitoes which are primarily responsible for the above diseases.
Directive to CTOs, Police
The panel directed the Telangana State Food Safety Department along with the Police authorities and the Commercial Tax authorities not to interfere in the business activities and Sale of Tobacco products including transportation to the shops, permissible under the provisions of COTPA 2003 in a batch of writ petitions filed by M/s. R One Agencies and others.
The petitioners filed writ petition challenging a notification issued by The Commissioner of Food Safety imposing prohibition of sale of certain Tobacco and Pan Masala products . The petitioner also challenged the authority of the said authority to issue such notification contending that they were against the mandatory provisions of COTPA 2003. The petitioners also sought directions against the authorities to not interfere and harass the smooth lawful business activities of manufacturing storing and sale of tobacco products such as Zarda, Khaini and other tobacco products permissible under the provisions of COTPA 200
Restore Tank
Justice K Lakshman of the Telangana High Court on Thursday directed the Panchayat Secretary, Moosapet Gram Panchayat, to produce the proceedings for ascertaining whether certain land falls under full tank level of Gollavani Cheruvu of Moosapet Village, Medak District, by October 21.
The Judge was dealing with a writ petition filed by Dhannavaram Adivaiah challenging the inaction of the District Collector Medak and other authorities in not taking any action against the unauthorised construction of Vaikunta Dhamam by the Moosapet Gram Panchayat along with its Sarpanch Ch Anji Reddy. The petitioner also sought directions to the concerned authorities to immediately initiate action to stop the unauthorised construction in Gollavani Cheruvu and to restore the water tank to its previous state.
