Hyderabad: Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice G M Mohiuddin of the Telangana High Court on Tuesday directed the State government to file a detailed counter in a public interest litigation seeking the filling of vacancies in the Telangana Police Department.

The direction came in a PIL filed by Keethineedi Akhil Sri Guru Teja, alleging that a large number of sanctioned posts across various ranks in the Police Department had remained vacant, adversely affecting policing and the maintenance of law and order in the State.

The Division Bench directed the State to place on record, within a week, the number of existing vacancies in the Police Department, the recruitment processes already initiated, the vacancies proposed to be filled, and the present stage of the recruitment process.

The petitioner sought directions to the State to fill all sanctioned vacancies in the Police Department, prepare and implement an annual recruitment calendar, and ensure the timely filling of promotional vacancies across all ranks.

The matter was posted for further hearing after one week.
