Hyderabad: Women leaders of Telangana Jagruthi staged a protest at the Telangana State Commission for Women on Monday, demanding action against MLC Chinthapandu Naveen for his alleged derogatory remarks against BRS MLC and Telangana Jagruthi president K Kavitha.
A delegation led by Mahila Jagruthi president M Madhavi reached the Commission’s office in the afternoon to file a formal complaint. However, with Commission chairperson Nerella Sarada unavailable and the Secretary initially refusing to accept the complaint, tensions escalated.
The protestors expressed strong resentment over being denied entry into the office despite prior intimation. They criticised what they termed as the Commission’s unresponsive stance on issues concerning women’s dignity and staged a sit-in protest outside the office for nearly two hours. The protestors also questioned the silence of the State government over slander directed at a woman legislator.
Eventually, Commission members Sudham Lakshmi, Revathi Rao, Uma, and Afroz Sahina accepted the complaint from the Jagruthi delegation. They assured that the matter would be brought to the chairperson’s attention and that appropriate action would be taken.
