Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao launched a scathing attack on the Congress government over its incompetence in managing Telangana’s water resources and prioritising sand business over farmers’ welfare.
He ridiculed the government’s assertion for the installation of telemetry on Krishna River after all the water had flown down the stream.
“This government is talking about telemetry after all the water has flown down the stream,” he said, rebuking the Congress for its failure to utilise Krishna and Godavari River waters. He blamed four decades of Congress rule for Telangana’s struggle to secure its rightful water share.
Pointing out the achievements of the previous BRS regime, Rama Rao said former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had swiftly completed the Kaleshwaram and Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Schemes along with others, constructing reservoirs to store hundreds of TMCs over last decade.
He criticised Congress for neglecting the Kaleshwaram project’s maintenance while releasing water downstream and looting sand.
Despite reservoirs with a total 50 TMC capacity being ready under the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme and four motors set up at Narlapur, he said Congress stalled the project by cancelling tenders and abandoning it for 15 months.
“They are drying up farm fields, and promoting sand mining. They are deceiving the people who gave them power,” he added, warning that the Congress’s failures would have dire consequences for Telangana’s agriculture.
