Hyderabad: Holding Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy squarely responsible for the SLBC tunnel roof collapse, BRS working president and MLA K T Rama Rao pointed out that the incident that occurred close on the heels of the retaining wall collapse in the under-construction intake well at Sunkishala near the Nagarjuna Sagar dam.
Highlighting the failures of the Congress-led State government, he accused the government of compromising on quality standards and supervision due to collusion with contractors and the pursuit of commissions. He demanded an inquiry into the tunnel roof collapse.
“The repeated occurrence of such incidents is a direct result of the government’s neglect of quality standards and oversight in their rush to secure commissions,” Rama Rao said. He called for immediate and transparent rescue operations to ensure that anyone trapped in the collapsed structure was safely brought out and provided with the best medical care.
He urged the State government to take responsibility for the accident, provide proper medical treatment to the injured, and ensure that such accidents do not happen again in the future. He emphasised that work should be carried out in accordance with regulations without succumbing to greed for commissions.
Referring to a past incident at the Kaleshwaram Project, where Congress leaders had created a fuss over a minor pillar issue, Rama Rao questioned the Congress’s silence over the recent series of failures under their administration. He demanded a transparent investigation into the SLBC Tunnel incident to uncover the causes and hold accountable those responsible.
