Kothagudem: District Collector Jitesh V Patil inaugurated a newly set-up Blood Storage Centre at the 100-bed Government Area Hospital in Manuguru in the district on Monday.
After inaugurating the facility, the Collector donated blood to create awareness among the people about blood donation. Speaking on the occasion, he said that blood donation means life donation, a single unit of blood one donates becomes a life-giving gift to others.
The Collector appealed to every healthy person to donate blood at least twice a year. Pregnant women, those suffering from diseases like thalassemia, sickle cell anemia, and those injured in accidents were dependent on blood donated by others.
With the establishment of this Blood Storage Centre in Manuguru, blood would be available to patients nearby in emergency situations. Till now, people had to go to Kothagudem, Bhadrachalam and other places for blood requirements, the Collector said.
Inspired by the Collector, DCHS Dr Ravi Babu, hospital superintendent Dr Sunil and doctors and staff of the government area hospital came forward and donated blood. About 20 people donated blood on the occasion.
