Mancherial: Large quantities of discarded plastic and scrap were gutted when fire broke out in a plastic scrap warehouse on MCC quarry road here late on Thursday night. The cause of the fire was said to be an electric short-circuit. The value of the property loss is assessed to be Rs 2.5 crore.
Fire department officials said discarded plastic items and scrap were reduced to ashes when the warehouse caught fire caused by electric short-circuit at around midnight. Fire engines from Mancherial, Bellampalli, Chennur and Godavarikhani stations were summoned to douse the flames. Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire by struggling for 5 hours.
It was learnt that locals experienced difficulty in breathing due to toxic gases released due to the fire accident. They alleged that a thick cloud of smoke formed over colonies surrounding the warehouse.
