Nirmal: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said it was the courageous move by Sardar Vallabhai Patel that helped Telangana’s liberation from Nizam’s rule. Addressing a public meeting to mark ‘Telangana Liberation Day’ in Nirmal, Shah flayed Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for failing to fulfil his promise of celebrating the day as an official event if TRS was voted to power. He announced that the BJP would organise it on a grand note if the party comes to power in 2024.

Stating that the then British rulers and Razakars hanged 1,000 tribals to death for revolting against the establishment in 1860, the Union Minister alleged that Chandrashekhar Rao was not recognising the sacrifices of Adivasis. He said that the party’s State president Bandi Sanjay Kumar was on a padayatra to understand and address problems faced by the public across the State. Claiming that the saffron party was gaining ground in Telangana, he said BJP had polled 20 per cent of votes in the Parliament elections. “Congress is on its deathbed in the country and the fight in Telangana would be between TRS and BJP in the Assembly polls,” he said.

The BJP leader alleged that All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) was directing the government in State. “The steering of the ‘car’ is controlled by MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi, but the BJP will restore the self-respect of the people of Telangana if the party is voted to power,” he said, adding that he was confident of victory in the next Assembly elections in the State.

Shah appealed to the voters of the Huzurabad constituency to elect party candidate Eatela Rajender in the by-election. Earlier, Shah paid tributes to martyrs at a memorial column on the outskirts of Ellepalli village in Nirmal mandal. Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy, BJP State president Bandi Sanjay, Adilabad district president Payal Shankar, and other top leaders were present.
