Mancherial: Aspirants have been waiting for over three decades for the recruitment of librarian posts and are pinning many hopes on the government.

Jobseekers recalled that the posts of librarians were last filled in 1981. They stated that recruitment to the posts had not been carried out since then. They said that over two lakh candidates had graduated with Bachelor of Library Science, Master of Library Science and other relevant qualifications in Telangana over the years.

The graduates have been eagerly waiting for the recruitment of librarian posts lying vacant in various government-run libraries for over three decades. They regretted that they were crossing the age limit for the jobs due to the delay in filling the posts. They lamented that they were struggling to find suitable employment opportunities in the private sector.

The disgruntled candidates recalled that BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar had promised to take up the recruitment during a visit to the Central Library in Hyderabad on August 12, 2024. However, they said the promise remained unfulfilled even after nearly two years. They urged the government to honour the promise and issue a notification to fill the posts at the earliest.

On the other hand, the libraries, which were revived during the BRS regime, have been grappling with a slew of challenges ever since the Congress assumed power. They lack basic amenities such as chairs, fans and books due to a fund crunch. They are understaffed, increasing the workload on employees and affecting administration.

Similarly, senior employees alleged that they had neither received promotions nor transfers over the past few years. They regretted that they were being forced to oversee multiple libraries, affecting their health. They alleged that inefficient employees were getting posted to key libraries because of their proximity to Ministers. They said they were approaching the courts, seeking intervention.
