Hyderabad: Telangana Life Sciences, BITS Pilani and RMIT University, Australia, have jointly launched an Industry-Integrated PhD & Research Programme to bridge the gap between industry and academia and strengthen research-led innovation in the life sciences sector.

By bringing together academic expertise and industry insight, the partnership aims to accelerate the application of research, strengthen workforce capability and contribute to economic and societal outcomes in both India and Australia. While the State has emerged as a leading destination for life sciences manufacturing and Global Capability Centres (GCCs), there remains a gap between academic research and industry needs. Bridging this gap is critical to accelerating innovation and strengthening Telangana’s competitiveness in the next phase of life sciences growth, according to a press release.

Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu said India invests barely one-fourth of China’s and less than one-fifth of the United States’ research intensity, highlighting the scale of the opportunity. Through the Industry-Integrated PhD Programme, Telangana is bringing together the government, academia and industry to build the research talent and innovation ecosystem that will position Hyderabad as a global hub for life sciences R&D, he added.
