Telangana: Light to moderate rains in Adilabad and Asifabad
Adilabad and Kumram Bheem Asifabad districts recorded light to moderate rains, disrupting normal life. Several mandals received over 60 mm of rainfall, swelling streams and cutting off villages. Irrigation projects saw inflows; surplus water was released from key reservoirs
Adilabad/Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Both Adilabad and Kumram Bheem Asifabad districts registered light to moderate rains from Thursday morning to Friday morning, affecting normal life.
According to the website of Telangana State Development Society, Adilabad’s average rainfall was gauged to be 33.1 mm. While Bheepur mandal received the highest rainfall of 76.8 mm, Jainad mandal and Sathnala had 76.1 mm and 68 mm of rainfall.
Bhoraj, Bela, Narnoor, Indervelli, Adilabad Rural, Gudihathnoor, Sirikonda and Utnoor mandals recorded anywhere between 50 mm and 30 mm of rainfall. The actual rainfall of the district was 370 mm as against the normal rainfall of 320 mm from June 1 to July 11, reflecting an excess by 22 per cent.
Meanwhile, Kumram Bheem Asifabad district saw the average rainfall of 26.9 mm. Asifabad mandal witnessed the highest rainfall by 60 mm, followed by Chintalamanepalli mandal, which registered 51.2 mm of rainfall. The actual rainfall of the district was measured to be 327 mm when compared to the normal rainfall of 294 mm, showing a deviation of 11 per cent.
Following the rains, hilly streams swelled, hitting the connectivity of many villages in the two districts. Sedmeka Suman, an 18-year-old shepherd, was washed away in a flooding stream while returning after grazing cattle between Dimda and Kethini villages of Kumram Bheem Asifabad district. Somini, Ippalagudem and surrounding villages were cut off from the mainstream.
Irrigation projects in the two districts received copious inflows. Surplus water was discharged from Mattadivagu, Sathnala and Kumram Bheem irrigation project downstream.
