Rajanna Sircilla: Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao toured flood-affected areas in Sircilla town on Wednesday. Due to torrential rains since Monday evening, most low-lying areas in Sircilla town, which recorded 15 cm rainfall after 30 years, were inundated. Life came to a standstill in Venkampeta, Pragathinagar, Shivanagar, Ashoknagar, Old Bus Stand, Sanjeevaiahnagar, Nethanna chowk, Main Bazar and Shanthinagar as floodwaters inundated low-lying areas, snapping road connectivity and swollen rivulets overflowing onto roads.

Local MLA and Minister KT Rama Rao visited the Shanthinagar area, which bore the brunt of monsoon fury. Since the floodwater has not yet receded, the Minister toured in knee-deep water to examine the situation. Interacting with the locals, Rama Rao enquired about their problems and assured them of all assistance from the government.

Earlier, the Minister conducted a meeting with the officials concerned at the Collectorate office and discussed about damage due to incessant rains. Interacting with officials, Rama Rao enquired about flood-affected areas and relief measures. He asked the officials to take steps to avert the flood situation in near future by diverting floodwater into the Manair river. He also instructed the officials to prepare plans to avoid water stagnation in Sircilla and Vemulawada towns and asked the administration to submit a crop damage report within a week.

Instructing officials to pay compensation to those affected, the Minister asked the officials to take up repair works of damaged electric poles and wires and roads. later, the Minister sanctioned Rs 1.35 crore to take up road repair works. He also asked the officials to construct drainage in Sircilla bypass road with Rs 38 crore.

Talking about the cave-in of the under-construction bridge near Vemulawada, Rama Rao asked the officials to complete the bridge by Sivaratri festival. Mendapalli PHC compound wall collapsed due to poor quality, the Minister said and instructed officials to issue notice to the contractor. Collector Anurag Jayanthi, Superintendent of Police Rahul Hegde, officials of Irrigation, Municipal, Panchayat Raj, Agriculture and other departments were present.
