Telangana municipal polls: BRS pockets 18 municipalities

BRS won 18 municipalities in Telangana municipal polls; Congress retained control over most urban local bodies. Fresh elections in 11 municipalities scheduled Tuesday under district collector supervision

Hyderabad: The BRS won chairperson posts in 18 municipalities in the recently concluded municipal elections, while the ruling Congress retained control over a majority of urban local bodies across Telangana. According to official data, the Congress secured 82 municipalities, while the BRS won 18.

Independents emerged victorious in Adilabad, Mahabubabad and Bhainsa municipalities. The BJP won Narayanpet, while the All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) secured Vaddepalli.


Of the 116 municipalities in the State, results have been declared in 105. The election process in 11 municipalities has been postponed and fresh polls will be conducted under the supervision of district collectors on Tuesday. BRS is expecting to win at least five out of these 11 considering its majority.

In the seven municipal corporations, the Congress won five Mayor posts. In the newly formed Kothagudem Corporation, the CPI secured the mayor’s post, while the Congress took the deputy mayor position. The BJP won the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation.

The municipalities won by the BRS include Raikal, Alampur, Aiza, Asifabad, Tufran, Muduchintalapalli, Yellampet, Sircilla, Amangal, Gaddapotharam, Gummadidala, Isnapur, Jinnaram, Cherial, Dubbaka, Gajwel, Tirumalgiri and Amarachinta.
