Hyderabad: After district groups and caste groups, now the Mahila Congress is up in arms against the State leadership, citing discrimination in recognition of services and allotment of posts.

Mahila Congress held its executive body meeting at Gandhi Bhavan on Tuesday and raised objections over the State leadership for failing to recognize their service to the party. Since the last 20 years, many women have been serving the party. Their experience and performance letters were shared with both Telangana Congress and AICC as well but our service was not being recognized by the State leadership, they complained at the meeting.

Irked over the State leadership’s failure, the Mahila Congress leaders led by M Sunitha Rao staged a protest at TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud’s chamber in Gandhi Bhavan on Wednesday.

AICC instructed that only one post would be offered to one leader and one family. However, Mahesh Kumar Goud was holding two posts, including TPCC president and MLC. Is this fair?, Sunitha Rao asked. She is from the BC community.

“Mahesh Kumar Goud should sacrifice one post and offer the same to any woman in the party,” she demanded.

Interestingly, the AICC assured that women would be offered 33 percent posts in both the party and government. But this was not being implemented by the State leadership. The same was brought to the notice of the AICC leaders as well, she said.

“It has been 18 months not a single Mahila Congress leader has been offered a post. In the recent RTI Commissioners appointments there is also discrimination towards Mahila Congress wing,” Sunitha Rao said.

On the contrary, turncoat MLAs and leaders were being offered high profile appointments, she said.

“I am prepared to resign from the party. Mahila Congress wing leaders have been waiting for 18 months and they feel humiliated. Are posts offered to only Reddy or SC/ ST communities’ leaders,” she asked.

In July 2024, a group of Mahila Congress leaders from Telangana flew to New Delhi and staged a protest. They also lodged a complaint with the AICC leadership against the State leadership, alleging that injustice was meted out to them while filling up nominated posts.
