Jeddah: Telangana NRIs in Saudi Arabia are elated after finding Tangedu flowers, Telangana’s State flower and an essential part of the Bathukamma festival, in Saudi Arabia to make Bathukamma cones.
Tangedu flowers have bloomed, adding beauty to the green gardens of Rabigh near Jeddah, and became a highlight of the Bathukamma festival held on Monday in Jeddah.
The Indian consulate, in collaboration with JTM, a Telugu NRI organization, organised the Bathukamma festival at the consulate premises, where Telugu women from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh participated with enthusiasm.
“It was truly a festival of flowers with Tangedu stacked in Bathukammas,” said Swarna Jyoti of Sircilla and Krishnaveni of Hyderabad, Telangana NRI women who played key roles in organising the event along with Durga Bhavani, President of JTM.
Apart from Tangedu, organisers sourced other fresh flowers in line with Bathukamma tradition from Yanbu, known for its mega flower festival, and other parts of the Kingdom, said Durga Bhavani.
The women praised the Indian Consulate’s effort to celebrate Bathukamma, marking the first such festival in Saudi Arabia.
