Hyderabad: Telangana is on the verge of reaching an important milestone of administering the first dose of Covid vaccines to 100 per cent of eligible beneficiaries. At present, 99 per cent of eligible individuals have already been vaccinated with the first dose and the all-important landmark of 100 per cent vaccination is expected to be reached in a day or two.
Of the 2,77,67,000 eligible persons in Telangana, so far a total of 2,73,84,439 persons have received the first dose. About 3.8 lakh individuals are yet to be administered with the first dose and are expected to be covered in a day or two.
Overall, including both the first and second dose, the State Health Department has to administer a total of 5.5 crore doses to the 2.77 crore eligible persons in Telangana. So far, the Health Department has administered 4.4 crore first and second doses to eligible individuals.
The turnaround in expediting the vaccine administration drive in Telangana started after the government decided to further intensify the vaccination drive in December. Within a short span of 20 days i.e. from December 1 to December 21, the health wing in coordination with other departments administered 25 lakh first doses and 40 lakh second doses to eligible individuals.
“By December end, we should be able to complete 100 per cent administration of first doses and achieve at least 70 per cent to 80 per cent of second doses. Credit must go to the people of Telangana who turned up at government vaccination centres in large numbers in December,” Director of Public Health Dr G Srinivasa Rao, in a recent interaction with the media said.
