Hyderabad: After the State Government reduced the eligibility from 65 years to 57 years for old age pensions, over 7.37 lakh new applications have been filed under the category.
The government had set August 31 as the last date for accepting the new applications via MeeSeva or e-Seva centres. At present, the State Government is extending over 37 lakh Asara pensions in different categories.
Instructions were issued to all District Collectors and GHMC Commissioner to accept applications from new applicants for identification of new beneficiaries under the Aasara scheme.
Specific directions were issued to the e-Seva Commissioner not to collect any service charges from the applicants. Service charges for all the applicants are to be reimbursed by the government to e-Seva.
Along with the applications, applicants were asked to submit true copies of birth certificate, voter ID card or electoral roll, school leaving certificate or certificate of recognised boards from the school last attended by the applicants.
The State Government has instructed the officials to ensure that identification of beneficiaries is done in a transparent manner and extend pension to all the eligible beneficiaries.
Accordingly, the officials will take up a district-wise survey to check the authenticity of the applications. Based on the documents submitted by the applicants, officials will check whether the applicant is from below poverty line and is eligible for the pension, said a senior official from Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty.
