Sangareddy: Following disruptions in the drinking water supply in Sangareddy town, Kandi mandal, and many other parts of the district over the last few days, people protested in front of the panchayat office on Tuesday.

With no respite in the situation, people, especially women, from Kandi took to the streets carrying empty pots and buckets accusing officials of ignoring their complaints.

The protesters pointed out that they suffered even on Ugadi and Ramzan festival days as there was no water supply.

While municipal officials arranged tankers at some places in Sangareddy to meet the needs of households, former councillors of Sangareddy arranged tankers on their own expense at some other places.

Speaking on the drinking water issue in Kandi, one of the residents, Parvathi, said they were struggling since there was no Mission Bhagiratha water supply in the mandal headquarters for the last 10 days.

She said four borewells had also become defunct in Kandi village, forcing the residents to hire water tankers to meet their needs. Former BRS councillor Jalandhar said civic officials and Mission Bhagiratha officials were ignoring their repeated requests to restore the water supply.

Mission Bhagiratha Superintending Engineer Raghuveer told Telangana Today that the pipelines carrying water to Sangareddy and Kandi were damaged as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) was expanding the road near Kandi.

However, they were working to restore the water supply to Sangareddy town and Kandi at the earliest, he said.
