Hyderabad: The Telangana Intermediate Education department is planning to launch daily special classes in all government junior colleges from the forthcoming academic year. These special classes will be conducted in online mode for one hour after the classwork ends.
To accommodate special classes, the department will tweak the college working hours. Government junior colleges, which function until 4.30 pm, will operate till 5.30 pm as per the proposed plan.
The initiative, according to department officials, is aimed at improving the academic standards of government junior college students, besides providing additional support to candidates preparing for competitive examinations.
As part of the plan, online coaching sessions by PhysicsWallah and CLAT will be streamed during the evening hours. To facilitate online coaching, the department has already provided two interactive flat panels to each government junior college in the State. In addition, digital laboratories are being set up in more than 360 colleges to strengthen digital learning infrastructure.
So far, some government junior college lecturers are extending short-term coaching for the Telangana Engineering, Agriculture and Pharmacy Common Entrance Test (TG EAPCET) and National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) UG. This free coaching is provided after the completion of the intermediate public examinations.
“The new initiative is aimed at helping students get admission to some of the premier institutions such as IITs, NITs and AIIMSs. Focus will also be laid on the TG EAPCET, as is being done now,” an official said.
In addition to academic support, the department has planned to enhance student welfare facilities. With plans to extend college hours, the department has decided to provide evening snacks to students. Further, breakfast and lunch are also being worked out.
The department has also proposed to provide free uniforms to students as part of the new initiative. As per the estimates, around Rs.400 crore will be required to implement these new initiatives – special classes, breakfast, lunch, snacks and uniforms – and a proposal has been sent to the government for inclusion in the forthcoming State budget.
