Telangana: Police arrest Maoist leader, seize explosive material

Kothagudem: Police have arrested Sodi Deva, a Deputy Commander of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) party’s 5th company, 2nd Platoon ‘A’ section, and seized explosive material from his possession.
The Superintendent of Police Sunil Dutt, giving details of the arrest to the media here on Saturday, said the naxal was arrested by Cherla police during combing operations in the forests near Geesarelli village of Cherla mandal in the district on Friday.
Deva, a native of Goddaliguda village which falls under the limits of Dornapal police station of Sukma district in Chhattisgarh State had joined CPI (Maoist) Party in the year 2011 and worked in Sukma and Kanker districts.
He was involved in exchange of fire (EoF) with BSF jawans near Ravugat area, Marram village under Kolibeda Police station limits and in an attempt on the life of a BJP leader, Manthu in Pakhanjur area in Kanker district in 2015.
Deva was also involved in EoFs with police personnel in 2016, 2018 and in 2020 at various places in Sukma and Kanker districts. The police seized five detonators, 20 gelatin sticks and 200 meters cordex wire from his possession, the SP said.
A case under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act has been registered against Deva at Cherla police station and he would be produced before the court of law, he added. Bhadrachalam ASP, Dr. Vineeth G and Cherla Inspector of Police, B Ashok were present.
