Hyderabad: All arrangements were in place for smooth and fair conduct of the urban municipal elections to be held in the State on Wednesday, Telangana DGP B Shivadhar Reddy said on Tuesday.
At a press conference, the DGP said that adequate police force was deployed in the areas where the polling would be held. Senior officials would monitor the election process from the command and control centre at the DGP office.
“All steps are taken to ensure peaceful conduct of the elections. Voters should go out without fear to the polling stations and participate in the election process,” he said.
Shivadhar Reddy said the polling stations were categorised into normal, sensitive and hyper-sensitive polling stations. “In the hyper-sensitive polling stations, 100 per cent webcasting is ensured. Strict action will be initiated against anyone trying to create trouble,” he warned.
The State police have set up 20 interstate border check posts and 55 interdistrict check posts. “A total of 988 FIRs were booked for illegal transport of property such as cash, liquor, drugs, freebies and MCC violations,” said the DGP.
The local police would be assisted by around 3000 policemen drawn from TGSP, Forest, Excise, CID, Legal Metrology and other departments.
