Hyderabad: Polytechnic and degree students will soon be able to earn while pursuing their course of study in the State.

In a move to impart industry-related skills, the Education department is set to enter into Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with over 100 companies, enabling students to get internships and apprenticeships in the industry on May 11.

As per Education department officials, polytechnic students will be offered apprenticeships with pay between Rs 12,000 and Rs 18,000 per month, while degree students will be offered internships with a stipend of Rs 12,000 per month. After completing apprenticeships and internships, students will be offered placements in the same organisations as part of the agreement.

To take the initiative forward, an industry-academia interaction programme was held at T-Hub here on Wednesday. Agreements in emerging sectors such as manufacturing, retail, marketing, logistics, banking and finance, life sciences, and artificial intelligence were discussed at length.

The meeting was attended by Commissioner of Collegiate and Technical Education A Sridevasena, Industries department director Madhukar Babu, Apprenticeship Board director Pandey, NITHM director Prof V Venkata Ramana, CII representative, Green Building representative Shekhar Reddy, among others.
