Kothagudem: Poor families in agency villages and Singareni areas are unable to benefit from the Indiramma housing scheme as they lack pattas for the lands under their occupation.

It might be noted that the State government has collected applications from homeless poor to sanction Indiramma houses, for whose construction funds would be released in a phased manner in accordance with the progress of the construction.

But a large number of beneficiaries in Kothagudem, Yellandu and Manugur towns have lands in Singareni areas and lack pattas since they are Singareni lands. Likewise those living in agency areas in Kothagudem, Yellandu, Chunchupalli, Laxmidevipalli, Paloncha, Aswaraopet, Dammapet, Bhadrachalam, Manugur, Chandrugonda, Mulkalapally and Annapureddypalle also lacked pattas for the house sites in which they are living by erecting sheds or thatched houses.

The beneficiaries could not get their lands registered as they fall under 1/70 Act or Singareni area. As a result of which they are unable to get Indiramma houses sanctioned to them. In Kothagudem municipality of the 12, 000 applications as many as 2, 500 applications are from Ramaravam and they either fall under the purview of 1/70 Act or Singareni area.

Former Kothagudem municipal chairperson, Kapu Seethalakshmi said the applicants living in Ramavaram area for years only have power bills and municipal tax receipts as a proof of their occupation of the house sites. Since they could not have their lands registered, the government should consider their applications as a special case and sanction Indiramma houses, she said.

CPI leader M Venkateshwarlu also wanted the government to treat applications for Indiramma houses made by Ramavaram residents as a special case and sanction the houses as the poor families have been living in the area for the past several years.
