Telangana power demand hits record 12,044 MW, surpassing previous peak

Electricity demand within TGSPDCL limits in Telangana reached a record 12,044 MW on Tuesday, surpassing the previous peak of 11,828 MW. Greater Hyderabad recorded 4,072 MW, while State-wide demand touched 19,133 MW amid rising agricultural power requirements

Hyderabad: Electricity demand within the limits of the Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) reached a new peak of 12,044 MW on Tuesday, marking the highest demand ever recorded in the organisation’s history. The earlier highest demand of 11,828 MW was recorded on September 11, 2026. The latest demand has surpassed that record.

Within Greater Hyderabad limits, a peak demand of 4,072 MW was recorded at 6:42 pm on September 28, while electricity consumption stood at 82.89 million units (MU). During the current financial year, the highest demand recorded in the GHMC area was 4,782 MW on May 22, 2026. On the same day, the highest electricity consumption of 101.07 million units was also recorded.

At the State level, electricity demand has also been witnessing significant growth. According to the Telangana TRANSCO State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC), a peak demand of 19,133 MW was recorded across Telangana on September 28, with total electricity consumption of 326.70 million units. The highest demand recorded in the State during the current financial year remains 19,543 MW, registered on September 9, 2026.

The State government was ensuring uninterrupted power supply to meet agricultural requirements in rural areas, including electricity needs for paddy cultivation and other crops. TGSPDCL officials said the increasing power demand was being met without interruption due to the augmentation of substation capacities, strengthening of the power network, and modernisation of the transmission and distribution systems.
