Telangana procures 70 lakh tonnes of paddy for Vaanakalam

Hyderabad: Surpassing the Centre’s target, the Civil Supplies department has procured 70 lakh tonnes of paddy for the Vaanakalam 2021-22 season which is about 44 per cent i.e. 21.21 lakh tonnes more than last Vaanakalam 2020-21 season. The paddy procured by the State government is around 1.31 lakh tonnes more than the official target of 68.69 lakh tonnes of paddy i.e. about 46 lakh tonnes of rice.
The paddy worth Rs 13,690 crore was purchased from nearly 12.78 lakh farmers through 6,872 procurement centres across the State. Further, Telangana stood third in the country among the States in terms of paddy procurement for the season.
In a statement, Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar said due to numerous support schemes like Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bima, uninterrupted power supply, irrigation facility and others implemented by the Chandrashekhar Rao government, farmers were harvesting bumper crop for the past a few years. He said paddy being brought to the procurement centres were still being purchased in some areas and the amount was being deposited within a week into the bank accounts of farmers.
