Hyderabad: Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar said the government procured a record 70.30 lakh tonnes of paddy for the 2021-22 Vanakalam season. “This was record procurement for the season even in the united Andhra Pradesh. Telangana stood third in the country among the States in terms of paddy procurement,” the Minister said.
In a statement issued here on Thursday, the Minister said paddy worth Rs 13,757 crore was purchased from nearly 12.87 lakh farmers through 6,872 procurement centres across the State. The government will deposit the amount into the accounts of farmers in a week, he said.
“Despite the hurdles created by Central government and the Covid pandemic, procuring 70.30 lakh tonnes was a phenomenal achievement. All this was possible due to Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s vision and guidance,” said the Minister.
The Central government had initially set a target of 40 lakh tonnes and additional 6 lakh tonnes of paddy was approved following Chief Minister’s demands. Surpassing all the targets, the Civil Supplies Department has procured additional 1.10 lakh tonnes, he said.
Among all the districts in the State, the highest procurement of 6,86,160 tonnes was recorded in Nizamabad. The lowest procurement of 2,468 tonnes was recorded in Adilabad. Already, 8 lakh tonnes of the stocks were handed over to the Food Corporation of India. This apart, milling of about 20,000 tonnes of rice was being done every day, he informed.
