Siddipet: The Irrigation department has started pumping of water into the Ranganayaka Sagar following a letter written by former minister T Harish Rao to Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy.
Since the water levels were declining in Ranganayaka Sagar with irrigation officials releasing water to ayacut, Harish Rao expected that there would be a shortage of water to meet Yasangi’s needs. Following his letter on February 21, the irrigation department started lifting water from Mid-Manair via Annapurna Reservoir by operating one pump.
The irrigation officials will pump in one TMC of water. Since the project has 1.42 TMCft of water now, it will take the total storage to 2.42 TMCft against its full storage capacity of 3 TMCft.
The project had 50,000 acres of ayacut under it. Exposing the Congress lies on the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS), Harish Rao had questioned how water could be lifted into Annapurna Reservoir and Ranganayaka Sagar if Kaleshwaram had collapsed.
