Telangana rolls out red carpet for French companies

Hyderabad: Continuing his efforts to hard sell Telangana as an investment destination, IT and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao asked various French industrialists and chief executives to visit Telangana and explore the business opportunities in the State.
He met with management of Servier, the second largest pharmaceutical Group in France with presence in 150 countries and €4.7 billion euros in revenue, on the sidelines of ‘Ambition India 2021’ meet in Paris. Company’s Open Innovation and Scientific Affairs Head Dr Olivier Nosjean and others were present. Rama Rao presented an overview of Telangana’s robust life sciences and pharma ecosystem and explained about initiatives like Research and Innovation Circle of Hyderabad (RICH) which facilitate industry, academia collaboration. He requested them to participate in the BioAsia event next year to explore collaboration avenues.
He also met SAFRAN Aircraft Engines Chief Executive Officer Jean Paul Alary at its headquarters to discuss about the potential for setting up dedicated skill development initiative for aerospace and defence sector in Telangana. Safran Electrical and Power, part of the French multinational aircraft and rocket engine, aerospace component, defence and security company, has recently expanded its aircraft engines facility in Hyderabad.
Alexandre Ziegl, International and Public Affairs Senior EVP and former Ambassador of France to India was also present at the meeting that happened at Safran headquarters in Paris. Air Attaché at the Indian Embassy in France, Air Commodore Hilal Ahmad, was also present.
The Telangana delegation also met French Development Agency’s (AFD) Asia and Middle East Director Philippe Orliange. AFD group finances, supports and accelerates transitions towards a sustainable world and is involved in more than 4,000 projects in 115 countries.
Later, Rama Rao also interacted with Thales Group EVP Mark Darmon and its India CEO Ashish Saraf. He discussed Telangana’s forays into emerging technologies and the recent launch of the Medicine from Sky project in collaboration with WEF. Thales operates in digital identity and security, defence and security, aerospace, space and transport segments. It has operations in five continents and employs over 80,000 people.
Later, the Telangana delegation also had an interaction with shared mobility player Keolis CEO Bernard Tabary. Keolis operates public transport networks on behalf of 300 organizing authorities and is present in 16 countries. The group is the a leader in automatic metro and tramways, medical transport and global parking contracts. Each year, more than three billion travellers use their shared mobility services. Keolis Hyderabad, a subsidiary of Keolis Group, is the operations and maintenance partner for Hyderabad Metro.
Rama Rao also met energy and digital solutions player Schneider Electric International Operations Executive Vice-Président Luc Remont. Schneider , which has operations in over 100 countries and employs more than 1.35 lakh people, has a manufacturing facility in Hyderabad. A subsidiary company AVEVA, which is into software development, also has a major presence in Hyderabad.
Industries Principal Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, Aerospace and Defence Director Praveen, Digital Media Director Dileep Konatham were part of the State delegation.
Meanwhile, the Government of Telangana and Bordeaux Métropole entered into a memorandum of understanding to work on joint projects in line with the transition to a sustainable city. This partnership ensures continuity with the Cooperation Agreement initiated on October 13th, 2015 between both Parties.
