The banner of Congress leader Avula Raji Reddy displayed at a ration shop in Narsapur constituency of Medak district on Wednesday.
Medak: A move by Congress leaders to put up banners of the party and its leaders at ration shops is drawing the ire of the people, BRS, and other opposition parties.
In the Narsapur constituency, Congress leader Avula Raji Reddy and other Congress leaders were allegedly forcing ration dealers to put up banners of the Congress party at all ration shops, drawing sharp criticism from various quarters.
Speaking to news reporters in Narsapur on Wednesday, BRS MLA V Sunitha Lakshma Reddy said the Congress was trying to own the fine distribution programme as its own.
She lashed out at Congress leaders for resorting to such a move. The MLA also criticised officials as they remained mute spectators.
She said Congress leaders put up banners of Raji Reddy, who contested the Assembly election and lost, in violation of protocol.
Interestingly, Sunitha Lakshma Reddy could not find her picture on the banners though she was the sitting MLA.
When questioned, Congress leaders created a ruckus by stopping the entire rice distribution programme in some villages.
Saying that she had interacted with several beneficiaries across the constituency, Sunitha Lakshma Reddy said the fine rice was mixed with 30 per cent broken rice.
Citing delay in procurement of paddy as rain threat looms large, the BRS MLA demanded that the State government keep the rice millers on alert to procure the paddy immediately.
She also asked the Congress government to release the Rs 7 crore pending paddy bonus amount to farmers.
