Kothagudem: Principal Secretary to the Governor, Dana Kishore, said the funds released for the development of the Konda Reddi tribes should be properly utilised and pave the way for their development.

The Governor adopted Poosukunta and Gogulapudi villages in Dammapet and Aswaraopet mandals respectively in the district. Rs 48.17 lakh was sanctioned for the welfare of the Konda Reddi tribes living in the villages, he said.

In a review meeting with ITDA Project Officer B Rahul through video conference from Raj Bhavan, Kishore noted that infrastructure should be developed with the funds for development of the tribal farmers and unemployed youth. Similarly, funds were released to the Red Cross Society for health protection of the tribals in the remote areas of Bhadrachalam, he said.

The PO informed the Principal Secretary that two units of tent house material had been provided to the unemployed youths in Poosukunta and Gogulapudi villages at a cost of Rs 10 lakh. Two power tillers, 20 solar pump sets to the farmers and a 5 KV generator for Gubbala Mangamma Devasthanam would be provided within 15 days.

Proposals have been sent for work orders for nine machines to make bamboo artefacts, one Agarbatti making machine and one ‘sambrani’ cup making machine for the unemployed youth in Gogulapudi village and they would be installed within 15 days.

Women in the Konda Reddi villages were being trained in beekeeping, making incense burners and making various types of items from bamboo, and steps would be taken to set up product manufacturing units, Rahul added.
