Nagarkurnool: Telangana Rythu Commission member KVN Reddy’s attempt to slap farmers for demanding remunerative price for groundnut and questioning about Rythu Bharosa’s assistance, is evoking sharp criticism from different sections.
The incident occurred in Kalwakurthy on Monday. Like their counterparts in Achampet, farmers were staging a protest demanding remunerative price for groundnut in the town.
It was at the same time that Telangana Rythu Commission Member and former ZPTC KVN Reddy along with a few Congress leaders reached the spot to discuss with farmers.
The farmers explained to them about the injustice being meted out to them by traders over low prices of groundnut. In the process, they also questioned about lack of assistance under Rythu Bharosa.
Even as the Congress leaders tried to explain that the government launched the exercise to deposit money into the farmers’ accounts under the scheme on Monday, farmers complained that they were yet to receive the amount.
As the farmers continued to question the Congress leaders, KVN Reddy got irritated and raised his hand to slap the farmers. This triggered arguments between the farmers and Congress leaders.
They found fault with KVN Reddy and said despite being a member of Farmers Welfare Commission, how he could try to slap ryots.
The farmers raised “Idemi Rajyam, Idemi Rajyam, Dongala Rajyam, Dopidi Rajyam” slogans. They also argued with KVN Reddy asking him how many farmers would he slap for questioning their rights. Sensing trouble, police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
