Peddapalli: Chairman and Managing Director of SCCL, N Balaram, called upon young officers to understand the financial status, future plans, and business expansion strategies of Singareni. It was mandatory to serve as strong support pillars for the future of the company.

In view of the retirement of senior and experienced officers over the next three years, CMD made these comments.

For the first time in Singareni’s history, the CMD held a video conference with second and third-level officers, including Managers and Deputy General Managers across the company from Singareni Bhavan, Hyderabad, on Tuesday evening.

Speaking on the occasion, the CMD tried to explain to the young officers the present status of the company. The price of coal produced by Singareni was much higher than any other coal company in the country.

Consequently, consumers were preferring cheaper and alternative sources, which poses a serious threat to the company. Asking the officers to increase productivity and reduce production costs, he emphasized the need to reduce production costs at least Rs1,000 per tonne and urged young officers to contribute toward this goal.

Informing about starting new coal blocks, he said that coal production in Naini in Odisha, VKOC in Kothagudem, JKOC in Yellandu, and Goleti OCP in Bellampalli would begin this year. An additional production of 20 million tonnes would be produced in new blocks, which would help meet this year’s target of 76 million tonnes.

SCCL was actively working to acquire coal blocks in other states as well. However, the company could not rely solely on coal production for survival as environmental regulations and depletion of coal reserves were expected to reduce thermal power generation and coal usage within the next 20 years.

To address this, Singareni has decided to enter the critical minerals production sector and has already appointed agencies for this purpose. If required, joint ventures with other companies would be explored.

The CMD noted that sand production units from overburden have already been set up, and plans are underway to produce products from fly ash and carbon dioxide. Proposals are also being prepared to set up a geochemical laboratory in the Singareni region.

Talking about solar power generation, he informed that the state government was aiming to produce 20,000 MW of solar power, and Singareni should aim for at least 4,000 to 5,000 MW.

The current thermal power generation of 1,200 MW was being increased to 2,000 MW by setting up a new 800 MW plant. Additionally, a 1,600 MW plant was planned in Odisha. With these expansions, SCCL is set to become the largest thermal power producer in the state.

About 762 officers from various departments and regions participated in this video conference.
